The Spartanburg House | Half-Bathroom Makeover

Personal

Jan 13, 2022

When Ryan and I first bought our house in 2020 we knew there would be a few things we wanted to update and change.. well, I knew there would be a few things I wanted to change haha One of the easier projects in my mind was to update our downstairs half-bathroom that was right off the front entryway. It was dark and definitely had potential for improvement with a personal touch. The walls were painted a very dark charcoal grey, with standard silver fixtures and just a plain, frameless oval mirror. It wasn’t anything terrible, but it just didn’t fit the decor style of the rest of the house. I like my home like I like my photos – light and clean, with a bit of color for contrast.

So we decided to tackle this project one step at a time. The first thing to do was search for inspiration. I scrolled through dozens of photos on Pinterest before I found a half-bath design that was very similar in size to ours and I LOVED the whole look and feel. Luckily for me they linked the vanity they had installed so I was able to purchase the same one! (I will do the same below). Then I picked out the fixtures I wanted. I went for a mix of gold and black finishes so that there was some uniformity and consistency, but also enough variation that it didn’t look too one-note.

Once I had removed the mirror, tool holder and TP holder, I repainted the walls in Sherwin Williams Decorator’s White. Then came the hardest part.. installing the vanity. Because of where the piping went into the original pedestal sink, we had to cut a hole into the back of the new vanity to be able to put it up against the wall. We also had to remove a section of the baseboard so it would stand flush against the back. To say that this part of the project was a mess is an understatement and I am eternally greatful for a patient and resourceful husband who did it for me haha.

But then came the fun part! Installing all the new fixtures, adding shelves and decorations to make the whole thing come together! In the end I think it came out perfect and I couldn’t be happier. Be sure to scroll to the bottom to see the before and after comparison!
