I’m sure at this point you’ve heard about Fall Minis. Every year, without fail, fall mini sessions are announced and chaos ensues. Moms everywhere out there scramble to snag a spot with their favorite photographer. Why? I honestly don’t know! Is it because we’ve been socially conditioned to need a brand new Christmas card photo right before we order them? Is it because that’s just “the thing” – is fall minis? Well I’m here to tell you that that doesn’t have to be the case. And, in fact, it shouldn’t be!

Did you know that most photographers who offer fall minis also offer spring minis? There are usually fewer spots, but they also tend to be more available since most people are still waiting for that fall session. Here’s a few reasons why I, as a professional family photographer and mom, believe that snagging a spring mini session is actually the best insider secret!

Spring Minis Have Better Weather than Fall Minis

During the spring here in Charleston, SC we have some absolutely BEAUTIFUL weather! I’m talking sunny days and temperatures hovering in the low 70’s to mid 80’s. There’s always the possibility of rain, but that’s what rain dates are for!

Flowers Are in Bloom in Spring

If you’ve always dreamed of having those beautiful photos with pink and white flowers around then this is the season for you! Spring in Charleston offers a wide variety of beautiful blooms to be the perfect backdrop for your session.

Better Outfit Selection in Spring than Fall

Let’s be honest, no one feels like they look their best all bundled up in layers and jackets. When you have your photos taken in the fall you typically have two options – wear an outfit you like or freeze. In the spring you can wear that beautiful dress and your kiddos can wear a cute short set without everyone feeling like a popsicle.

Spring Minis Have Better Colors than Fall Minis

When you hire a “light and airy” photographer like me to capture your family photos, you want images that look like what you’ve seen on my blog and Instagram feed! I’ll let you in on a secret, fall and winter colors do not typically mesh well with a L&A photographer’s style. That means that although your images will still be beautiful, they may be different than you’re used to seeing from me. And that’s just due to the nature of dead trees and fall leaves!
