Catherine and Greg were the absolute sweetest couple! I know I say that a lot, but all of Jessi’s brides are just so kind-hearted it makes the day SO easy. I loved getting to know them and all their friends and family who were a part of this special day. It was my first time shooting at the Poinsett Hotel, but man it was beautiful! We had the opportunity to go up to the rooftop and grab some portraits in front of the iconic Poinsett Hotel sign. And that ballroom was AMAZING! Such a gorgeous space. Not to mention it was the perfect backdrop for this classic downtown wedding.

During the ceremony they told the story about how Catherine and Greg met at a party, but that someone had mistakenly told Greg, when he asked about Catherine, that she was already dating someone else! When he found out that she was in-fact single, he immediately jumped on the opportunity to ask her out. How sweet that he knew from first seeing her that he wanted to get to know her better.

This bridal party had ties to New Orleans so they had some fun additions to the day like a live band (which followed them out during the exit!) and cake pulls! I’f you’ve never heard of this, neither had I haha. It’s a New Orleans tradition where they hide various charms with ribbon tails in the base of the cake. The bride then gathers her single ladies to each take hold of a ribbon. They then pull out their charm and see what they got! Each one has a different meaning. There’s a ring, signifying the next to get married, a horseshoe for good luck, a heart indicating impending love, etc. It was so fun! And such a great alternative to the bouquet toss.
